Getting Started with Cloth Nappies - Terminology

Aug 15, 2019

Figuring out where to start with cloth nappies can be a little overwhelming.  We wanted to break it down for you!  If you're wanting to know the difference between bamboo vs suede or an explanation of other cloth nappy terms, check out the video below or scroll down to read a summary if you prefer.

At Bear & Moo we stared with our One Size Fits Most (OSFM) pocket nappies, so because of the pocket at the back where the absorbency goes.  We have also since added a newborn nappy, large nappy and Luxe nappy.

Our OSFM and Large cloth nappies come with 2 parts – the shell or outer, and an insert which gives you your absorbency.  These nappies come with a 4-layer microfibre insert, and then we sell bamboo inserts (or hemp) if you need them (more on those in another video!).

Our OSFM pocket nappies do come in two fabric options – suede or bamboo.  This is the fabric of the inner lining which goes against baby’s skin.  So suede vs bamboo, the differences – suede is a stay-dry fabric which wicks away moisture leaving bub feeling dry.  Bamboo is a natural fibre, more absorbent but slower absorbing meaning bub can often feel the wetness before it’s fully absorbed.  This can be helpful for toilet training. There’s no right or wrong, it’s totally personal preference.
